What was Heart in Hand Needlart's first published design?
Tricky question! The first leaflet published by Heart in Hand was Bands of Faith, but there were previous designs published in magazines!
In 1991, Cecilia entered and won a design-a-heart contest sponsored by Classic Cross Stitch magazine. This was her first published design but it was not under the name "Heart in Hand." Cecilia subsequently had a number of designs published in stitching magazines before she formed Heart in Hand Needleart.
What was the first Wee One?
Both Wee Wooly and Strawberry Song were released at the same time in Spring, 1996. We personally think of Christmas Light as the first Wee One, as it is the first Wee One ever designed by Cecilia, though it was not released until Summer 1996.
What is the significance of the phrase, "Wherever you go I will go, your people shall be my people and your God my God" on the design The Marriage Promise?
As you might guess from the initials on the design, The Marriage Promise model pictured on the chart refers to Cecilia and Randy. The Biblical quotation has an additional meaning to us. Instead of repeating the customary vows, we adapted the popular verse from the Book of Ruth into wedding vows. The verse is also engraved in Randy's wedding band.
The birthday cupcake on Wee Birthday reads "Michael, February 9." Who is Michael and what is the significance of the chart being released in 1998?
Wee Birthday was designed in honor of Michael Newlin of the cross stitch design company Bent Creek! 1998 is significant because on February 9, 1998, Michael turned thirty!
The design Fine Friends is dedicated to "Millie." Who is Millie?
Millie is a good friend to Heart in Hand! Many in the industry may already know Millicent Richard who, along with her sister Anne Wallace, previously owned a beautiful needlework shop in Clarksville, Tennessee. When Millie's husband, Mike, was transferred to Dayton, Ohio, in late 1998, Millie worked for Heart in Hand. Another job transfer now has Millie and Mike away from Ohio, but Millie is much more than a former employee. She has become a dear friend and member of our family--a fine friend indeed!
R & R Reproductions has an immense array of hand dyed linen available, one of which is Pepe's Purple Passion. What's the connection with this fabric and Heart in Hand?
Pepe is a nickname Pat and Ann oo R & R Reproductions bestowed on Cecilia's husband, Randy, and so named the linen color after him.
What do Cecilia and George Clooney have in common?
They have both worked with Nick Clooney! During his ER days, George appeared with his father, guest co-hosting a Father's Day Special with Nick on the American Movie Classics Channel (AMC), where Nick for a time served as a regular host. Cecilia first worked in television news while Nick was the news anchor at Cincinnati's number one rated nightly local news show.
Who
is known as "The Queen of Wee"?
One of the most vocal supporters of Heart in Hand Needleart is a stitcher named Gina Eggebrecht of Little Rock, AR. Gina was dubbed "The Queen of Wee" by participants on a discussion board on AOL some years ago, as she stitched a large number of Wee Ones designs.
After corresponding for some time, Gina accompanied her husband to Cincinnati on a business trip arranging to finally meet Cecilia at a cross stitch shop owned at the time by our dear friend Ruth Sparrow of Twisted Threads. There Cecilia and Ruth officially "crowned" Gina the "Queen of Wee", as you can see from the photo of Cecilia with the queen! And as you can also see, Gina was a great sport, even going so far as to wear this "get up" around the shop (though she did take it off before they went to lunch...).
Over the years, Gina has stitched models for Heart in Hand and worked at trade shows with us upon occasion. She has also worked for the cross stitch getaway company owned by Cecilia's husband, Randy. It is the support of friends of Heart in Hand Needleart like Gina that add so much to Cecilia's art. Thank you Gina!
